Greetings fellow professionals,
Fall is upon us and this time of year excites us for a variety of reasons. The cooler weather invites us to open our homes and welcome a cool refreshing breeze. The change of color in our landscape to deeper oranges, reds and yellows. The beginning of football season and the belief that this year our team will win a championship! It's the start of a new school year with the promise of additional knowledge to help us succeed in life. And there is the Fall harvest that provides us with a cornucopia of vegetables to gather before the starkness of winter.
For me it is all those things plus the excitement of seeing the fruition of my hard work to bring about an exciting year of CE speakers for the Southern Nevada Dental Hygienists' Association. As president-elect last year I worked diligently to find and organize the upcoming events for 2013-14. I did not do this alone. I welcomed wonderful mentors, was rescued by volunteers, encouraged by kind words and enriched my life with new friends!
I will continue to call upon these resources as our year continues and welcome any and all help. I have grown to appreciate all the hard work that goes on "behind the scenes" and applaud those that make it look so effortless.
Because of this experience I've become more aware of the importance of volunteering and becoming involved. It takes a team to be successful and to grow. I encourage everyone to join in and help our association be successful. Look for the opportunities to enrich your life and grow by helping others. At our September meeting we had fifteen volunteers step up and become mentors for the senior dental hygiene students at CSN. Sharing their experience and enthusiasm will benefit everyone. Plus it is fun and energizing to be around these future hygienists. Thank you so much for volunteering!
I want to recognize all those that volunteered as delegates for the NDHA House of Delegates this October. These hygienists represented us well! They provided us with a voice at the Nevada Dental Hygienists' Association House of Delegates so that the issues that are important to us can be recognized and discussed. Thank you so much for taking time to talk with us, to travel to Reno and represent us before the Board of Trustees. And last but certainly not least, I want to continue to recognize and show my appreciation for my other board members. You are my championship team!
"You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts, acknowledge their success, and encourage them in their pursuits. When we all help one another everybody wins". Jim Stovall, Olympic weightlifter.
ENjoy and be kind,
